Widely known as one of the Seven Churches from the Book of Revelation, Laodicea, or Laodikeia, is an important ancient city on the crossroads of trade routes in western Anatolia. It has been excavated by Prof. Dr. Celal Simsek of Pamukkale University since 2003.
For the first volume of excavation reports, the team has prepared the results of excavations from 2004 to 2010 in the necropoleis surrounding the site in all directions. The work is arranged in two volumes due to enormous size of information gathered; the first volume contains the text while the second one the catalogue, reaching 1076 pages in total containing 4,800 illustrations mostly in colour. The catalogue presents 1603 artifacts in total from 283 tombs. Time range varies fom the Hellenistic to Roman to Early Byzantine period.
