The mosque and hospital complex at Divriği in the heart of Anatolia from the first half of 13th century is renowned for its unusual and unique decoration. The uniqueness of Divrigi stems from being a display case for the whole Near-Eastern Middle Ages- and the Seljuk period in particular- artistic and craftsmanship figurative lexicon, and a display of quite encyclopedic proportions at that. The free artistic expression of the ornamentation method, an expression that defies the artistic norms of the period, has gained Divrigi considerable status. The well-known author divides his work into chapters titled historic and cultural environment; ornamentation; ornamentation of Divri€i; basic artistic references of the Divrigi ornamentations; on Islamic ornamentation in the Middle Ages; a comparison between the plastic arts of Divri€i and the art of the Middle Ages. 229 pp with numerous color pictures .
